Over the last ten years, so many people have said to me, "I know education has to change but I don't know what it could look like."

I decided I would do my part to dream up new possibilities, especially for teenagers--I have had the good fortune to participate in and create some extraordinary community learning centers and networked learning environments. I began seeking out alternatives to conventional approaches to learning when I was 15. This search has turned into a lifelong dedication.

When the web came along, I began to feel the need for a new word. Words have tremendous power. When we change our vocabulary we can see things we couldn't see before. We can think in new ways. Edge-ucation is what I'm looking for and when I can't find it, I help invent it.

The Haven apprenticeship path is an experiment in edge-ucation. If you'd like to invent your own edge-ucation and would appreciate support in the process, you might like to join us. Haven is seeking 10 apprentices (ages 14-21) who would like to begin an adventure...
